Race Report – 2026 Lloyds Bank BMX National Series Rounds 5 & 6: Gosport, Dorset

Rounds 5 & 6 of the 2026 Lloyds Bank BMX National Series took place during last weekend in Gosport, Dorset. 

We arrived on Friday at lunchtime so that we could set up our ACE motorhome in the campsite and our Surf & Turf tent in the team area. Then at 17,00 it was the first practice session of the weekend. The track at Gosport is not one of Scott’s favourites, so he was keen to utilise his practice session to get the maximum from the track. 

In the BMX National Series it is your top 6 results that count towards the overall title. With 4 wins already in 2026, his focus was very much on a great weekend to try and wrap the overall title up.

Saturday: Round 5

In BMX riders have 3 qualifying races – called motos which qualify riders through to the knockout stages of quarter finals, semi finals and then the final.

Scott’s moto’s were not straight forward, finishing 2nd, 2nd and 1st. Both his second places came after Scott was leading to the final corner. He was pushing way too wide and leaving the inside too open, leading to overtakes.

Qualifying through the next rounds and to the final as the second seed, the team were more than happy with that. The plan had been to make the final. He had done that with ease.

Scott was able to chose gate 2. Making his best start of the day, Scott again took the lead and pulled away on the first two straights. however, on the third straight he made a huge mistake and lost some speed. In the the final turn, he was being set up! He covered the inside but the rider in second carried speed at the tip of the turn and took the lead on the final straight. Across the line it was second for Scott. An incredible race and the crowd were showing their appreciation. 

“I am really happy with today. I gave it my all and today it wasn’t quite enough to take the win. I made a mistake and wasn’t the best rider today. Hats off to Matt (Barnard). He executed that final turn perfectly and deserved the win. I’ll be back tomorrow.

Sunday: Round 6

So, onto Sunday and it’s safe to say Scott was fired up and ready to make up for the mistake on Saturday. 

His motos went much better, taking a couple of wins and a second. It was the semi final though where Scott made the difference to his day. Between the two semi finals, it is the fastest times that will determine the gate positions in the final. Scott rode his best lap of the weekend and took the fastest hill time and lap of the day. This gave him and the team a tonne of confidence heading into the final.

In the final, Scott went straight for gate 1. After the riders names were announced, the crowd went silent. The beeps fired into life and Scott made his fastest gate of the whole weekend. He took the lead and rode close to a perfect lap. However in the final turn, Matt Barnard again swung wide and carried more speed on the final straight. The crowd were going crazy cheering them both on and across the line it was…… Scott who took the win by just one thousandth of a second!

It was an incredible final that will have people talking bout it for years to come.

Scott now has 5 wins and a second place in his quest to become the BMX National Champion. He is close. Really close to a perfect score. Mathematically he can now only finish first or second in the series!

He now has 4 rounds remaining to get a single win. Stay tuned!
